Another success story from the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market opens this weekend, as the Little White Kitchen Baking Co. is set to begin baking on Lincoln Road.

Originally having planned to set up shop on Drouillard Road., plans took a turn for owner Michèle Bowman, and landed her next to the City Cyclery in Olde Walkerville. Thirty two weeks of heavy restorations have turned the space from a vacant shop into a picturesque and quaint bakery that boasts more than a ‘little’ sized kitchen.

“This is the first time I’ve ever opened any kind of bakery. I’ve had a booth at the Downtown Farmers’ Market at Charles Clark Square for the past two summers, and this would have been my third year,” said Bowman.

“Last year I got so busy and I started having restaurants inquiring about my stuff. It just sort of happened naturally and organically and our landlord was very receptive to having a restaurant here.”

Bowman plans to offer a full line of baked goods, with a wide assortment of gluten free items. Her plans are to specialize in sourdough bread, pastries, specialty soda, ice cream by the pint, and eventually branch into serving lunch and breakfast.

“Probably in the fall we’ll be able to have soups and sandwiches. I’ve never done anything like this so I have no idea what to expect and how busy it’s going to be, so we’re going to start out a little slower and work our way up. We have lots of space.”

“It’s going to be a bakery where you can come in and sit down and drink coffee. We’re carrying awesome lines of coffees and teas and are going to make everything from scratch. There’s no other bakery in Walkerville, so we really want to service the community.”

The Little White Kitchen Baking Co. is located at 543 Lincoln Ave. and will open Saturday, Aug. 8 from 11 a.m. to
