Women Entrepreneurship Strategy

Is a career in emerging technologies in your future? Do you own a technology business and need support to grow?

On August 22, 2019, the Government of Canada announced that it would be providing up to $692,000 over the next four years to provide coordinated support to women entrepreneurs in the Windsor-Essex region to start and grow a business in emerging technologies. The funding will be administered by the WindsorEssex Small Business Centre to support a range of activities linked to breaking
down barriers and supporting women across the Windsor-Essex region to start and grow emerging technology businesses across all stages of business development.

The WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation is partnering with other economic development organizations across the Windsor-Essex region: University of Windsor’s EPICentre, WEtech Alliance, Windsor Essex Capital Angel Network, WorkForce Windsor Essex and Build a Dream.

The first ever Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) is a $2-billion investment by the Government of Canada that seeks to double the number of women-owned businesses by 2025. Only 16% of Canadian businesses are owned or led by women and yet studies show that by advancing women's economic participation in the economy Canada could add up to $150 billion in GDP. WES is a whole-of-government approach to helping women grow their businesses through access to financing, talent, networks and expertise.
